To provide comprehensive medical and psychiatric care for adults including the provision of medications and medical care under the supervision of the Medical Director.


* Provides direct psychiatric services to adults including psychopharmacologic consultations and emergency   evaluations

* Takes responsibility for differential diagnosis, and the review and approval of treatment plans.

* In collaboration with a physician, assesses client's past medical history and determines health and emotional status through interview (and/or physical examination if certified). Determines need for additional evaluations and tests and refers clients to other medical specialists or services as needed. Documents medical problems in the medical records including diagnosis and proposed plan of care.

* Educates clients about their current medical conditions, laboratory findings, and medications.  The latter includes educating clients about the possible effects and side effects of medications.

* In conjunction with a physician, admits adult clients to health care facilities.

* Coordinates care with local primary care providers.

* Provides psychiatric consultation to local primary care providers.

* Establishes and maintains a liaison with local pharmacies.

* Orders, stocks, and maintains clinic medical supplies.

* Manages the clinic's toxicology screening program.

*Provides brief psychotherapies to individuals, families and groups.

*Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings.

*Participates in staff development activities and in-service training.

*Provides after hours on-call coverage (as back up for Medical Director)

Education and Experience Required

Master's Degree in Nursing.  Licensure or eligibility in Connecticut as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.  Experience with the seriously mentally ill OR Connecticut licensure and boar eligibility or certification in psychiatry.  Knowledge of substance abuse services preferred but not required.

Supervision Received

Supervised by the Medical Director of Yale Behavioral Health
