Title:  Registered Nurse & CNA's

Function: 

Under the direction of the Health Services Director and the medical direction of the agency physician(s), provides health assessment, education, nursing care to clients and guidance to staff members to assure and maintain the health and physical well-being of the clientele of the agency.

13.    Documentation: Documents interventions in well written documents e.g. treatment plans, progress notes, IEPs, and reports.
14.    Systems Knowledge: Demonstrates knowledge of behavioral health/educational system and collaborates effectively with other professionals and makes appropriate referrals.
15.    Conflict Management: Encourages creative tension and differences of opinions. Anticipates and takes steps to prevent counter-productive confrontations. Manages and resolves conflicts and disagreements in a constructive manner.

Use of capabilities:  (illustrated by typical activities)

l. Identifies minor illnesses and injuries; provides treatment, medication or medical care within parameters set forth by the agency’s physicians.

2.  Refers serious or specialized problems to proper medical resources.

3.  Administers medication/medication training and supervises medical treatments and use of medications by child development staff for all assigned programs.

4. Coordinates activities of all medical related consultants.

5.  Maintains a treatment room for examination and treatment purposes; purchases and dispenses health care supplies.

6.  Prepares and maintains permanent medical records, including identified illnesses, referrals made, prescription medications and treatment ordered.

7.  Maintains a variety of records concerning clients in treatment, including immunizations, physical examinations, health insurance identifications and medical emergency cards.

8.  Acts as liaison between treatment staff and the medical community.

9.  Confers with treatment team members or parents/guardians regarding medical issues of client’s treatment as necessary.

l0.  Provides in-service education on medical concerns, as appropriate.

11. Consults with Food Services and consulting dietitian on dietary and nutritional matters.

12. Provides health services for on-duty staff members as appropriate; maintains appropriate records; assists in preparation of claim reports as required in cases of work-related injuries.

13. Provides counseling for clients with problems of a medical or sexual nature when appropriate.

14. Monitors the confidentiality and proper control of all nursing records.

15. Provides additional client related services as appropriate or assigned.

Use of capabilities is characterized by competence and timeliness in the proper identification of illnesses or injuries; and by singular concern for the health and well-being of clients and staff.

Physical Demands:

Sitting; Standing; Walking; Lifting (up to 30 lbs); Pulling; Pushing; Carrying (up to 20 lbs); Grasping; Bending.  Ability to participate in physical restraints once trained).

Authority:

In the care, treatment and referral of clients, authority is full and clear, under the direction of the Health Services Director, subject to the limits established by the physician and the constraints of sound nursing practice.  In supervising discharge of nursing duties, the exercise of authority is full and clear subject to the limits of sound professional principles and practices, agency policy and procedures, and the directives of the Health Service Director.

Requirements

Education/Experience/Other requirements:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with current CT license; 2-4 years experience in social services setting preferred.
  • Must maintain certification in CPR/First Aid, and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Training: 

Must complete 5 hours of professional development in addition to the required trainings each calendar year.
