Position: Trauma Registrar (PRN, 1099 Contractor)
Location: 100% Remote (U.S. – all 50 states)
Hours: 15–20+ hours per week (consistent availability required)
About the Role
Health Information Alliance (HIA) is seeking experienced Trauma Registrars to join our growing trauma registry division. This is an excellent opportunity for detail-oriented professionals looking for flexible, remote work.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for abstracting high-quality, standardized trauma data while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with hospital, state, and national registry requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Abstract physiological and anatomical data for trauma patients into designated data systems
Identify, prioritize, and code trauma cases using standardized guidelines
Ensure accuracy and completeness of trauma registry data
Extract data from electronic health records in accordance with registry definitions (demographics, prehospital care, treatment, procedures, outcomes, etc.)
Perform injury coding and severity scoring
Participate in quality assurance and data validation reviews
Maintain strict confidentiality and data security standards
Collaborate effectively with clients and internal team members
Perform additional registry-related duties as required by contract

Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
Ability to interpret and apply data dictionary definitions
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote environment
Excellent communication and responsiveness
High level of professionalism when interacting with clients

Requirements
Required Qualifications
Minimum 3+ years of current trauma registry experience
Experience with electronic health records (EHRs)
Strong knowledge of NTDS trauma data definitions
Certification: CSTR or CAISS required
Proficiency with one or more trauma registry systems (e.g., TQIP, DI Collector, TraumaOne, Trauma Base, TSE, etc.)
Working knowledge of:ICD-10-CM (injuries and mechanisms)
ICD-10-PCS
AIS (Abbreviated Injury Scale) scoring
Preferred Qualifications
RHIA, RHIT, RN, or LPN credentials
Experience with pediatric and/or burn (ABA) trauma data abstraction
Technical Requirements
Reliable, high-speed internet connection
Proficiency with: Microsoft Excel
Web browsers and email platforms
Electronic health records
Familiarity with: Secure access systems (e.g., Citrix)
Data abstraction tools and encoders
Web-based applications
General Requirements
Ability to commit to consistent weekly hours
Maintain current credentials and stay updated on coding and abstraction guidelines
Strong organizational and time management skills
May be subject to background and/or drug screening
