Supervise IV and equipment management technicians while ensuring the continuation of pharmacy management's goals and objectives within the dispensing pharmacy.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all pharmacy laws and regulations, and sterile compounding guidelines.
- Maintain all required IV documentation and clinical monitoring.
- Fully assess new patients and new orders on existing patients for appropriateness of therapy, high risk medications, allergies, adverse indications or interactions, and other potentially adverse outcomes.
- Thorough knowledge of prescriber/facility notification process for drug interaction, allergy, and other adverse patient safety situations.
- Performs accurate dose calculations based on medication, patient condition, volume and administration rates.
- Program infusion pumps - Consistent and ongoing clinical monitoring of all infusion patients.
- Thorough knowledge of medication occurrence reporting process.
- Have a thorough understanding of the Omnicare Long Term Care Pharmacy/Home Infusion Pharmacy Policy and Procedure Manual and internal pharmacy policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of other facility infusion therapy manuals if not using the Omnicare Customer Infusion Procedure manual.
- IV order processing only when technical support unavailable.
- Excellent care coordination with home health agencies, nursing facilities, physicians, and the IV nurse consultant.
- Answer drug-related questions as related to IV therapy and management in a timely manner.
- Communicate with facility consultant pharmacists and clinical staff pharmacists regarding IV patient management.
- Orient and provide competency assessment for all pharmacists who rotate from oral pharmacy to IV pharmacy and orient and assess competency on all IV technicians and infusion pump technicians, when appropriate; this includes making certain that all pharmacists and technicians rotating into the IV room have completed the approved Omnicare Infusion Training Program.
- Maintain knowledge of currently available infusion devices, products, and supplies.
- Oversee cleanroom monitoring and pump maintenance.
- Follow all applicable government regulations including HIPAA.
- Other duties as assigned; Job duties may vary by location, including covering other areas in the pharmacy workflow.
This is a full time position. The schedule will be Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:30am-4pm. The weekend rotation is every other. There is a very limited-not often, on-call requirement.
Required Qualifications
- BS Degree in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy required
- Current license to practice pharmacy in good standing
- 3 years infusion therapy experience which MUST include clinical management of patients
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least two (2) years of long term care experience
- Immunization certification or willingness to become immunization certified
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently to plan, develop and coordinate pharmacy activities
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex topics using reasoning abilities to apply advanced mathematical concepts and draw valid conclusions.

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$55.53 - $93.08
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.
